Sick Day / Monday

From some time ago. Pretty literal tbh.

For my mind
I watch a new show
So far 8 episodes
A young woman knocks at my door
I hear her singing before I open
I dread it, but I open
She's from the SPCA
I love the SPCA
She's asking all the right things
She's saying all the right things
She's so eager
        will you take a 20?
She deflates but whatever
I can't commit to anything regular
And I could see her lips were starting to chap
The dried spit flecks tell-tale of endless door-to-door spiel
But no chance for a glass of water
She's dehydrating for the animals
I'm sure you and your neighbours agree!

For a sense of normalcy
I take a shower
        Don't worry about the hair
        Just wash your ass, lazy
Too-frequent shampoos are taboo
Try a new band on Spotify this afternoon
Glass Vaults while I’m in the glass vault
But all I hear is repeated conversations
From yesterday and 1997 and last year
Me and everyone I've ever met
Analyze to stuporous depths
I cringe and rinse the face again
I can't remember - did I rinse my pits?
Is my period coming?
Is my waist rounding?
How much water have I wasted?
Get out you're clean!

For a change
I moisturize with Prokofiev
Montagues and Capulets
It's beautiful
Strings build up and hold some tension
My mind lets go for a sec
While I smooth I move back to
        Granny and Akaroa
I'm always going back
It's ConcertFM, and butter, and the sea
So I smile as I lay out fresh clothes
Immediately switch them for a second set
I'm only going to the Night n Day
Probably the liquor store too
ALAC would tally me up on the problem end
I'm sure of it
Count the cans in the yellow-lidded bin
        No, don’t.
Did you know hard seltzer can come with collagen?
So much less sugar and, yeah, 1.8std per can
But it's collagen
It's self-care!
For a sense of normalcy
On a sick day
For a change
For my mind.
