I went to a rally for the first time since 2002. In ’02 it was protesting the “war on terror” being lead by the Bush admin in the US.
This time I was moved to stand in support of trans people, who have recently seen more attention from politicians and other assholes who refuse to accept that there is more to sex and gender than XX vs XY.
Simply put; trans women are women, trans men are men, non-binary people are valid, and intersex people are real. The binary is a lie.
After the rally it started to rain and so I went to the art gallery for some respite and thinking.
Love you, Ōtepoti.
ART AFTER THE TRANS RIGHTS RALLY
Community / Communicate
Expression / Ideas
Love / Fear
Wonder
A woven mat
The echoes of footfalls
Stonewall was a riot
I sit at a waterfall in the Otira Gorge
Pulling focus into the whitewater
Pounamu
Flags clapping in the breeze
Palms ringing in my pocket
Tautoko
Tangata whenua tell me to listen
Listening to the pencil strokes
Smelling kōkōwai in my medulla
Breathe in and together
Exhale torrents
Water over rocks
This is being human
